____________

"Cougar - Ghost of the Rockies", $20.00 (soft cover)

by Karen McCall and Jim Dutcher, 1992, Sierra Club Books. 142 pages, paperback, big print. Filmmaker takes wild-born, captive raised 4 year old pregnant female cougar, releases her in 5 acre enclosure surrounded by 10 ft high electric-wire topped fence, observes and films how cat reacts to "freedom" . Very interesting book. Cougar liked the author enough to allow her to handle the kittens and they even took naps together. (!! this is a fully clawed, toothed animal!) Cubs grew up quite feral. One escaped enclosure and was killed by wild cougar. Other 2 cubs released in to wild - mother successfully taught them how to hunt. Mother returned to zoo. Television documentary of same name exists.
